Cocoa Growing

Cocoa or cacao grows on a tree in the Theobroma cacao species.  Native to the Amazon river basin, cacao comes in many botanical varieties which are lumped together by chocolate manufacturers into three main categories:  Criollo, Forastero, and Trinitario.  The average cocoa tree produces 40 pods per year and each pod contains 40 seeds or beans.
