146. Farmers of Mamfe, Cameroon

MAMFE, CAMEROON, 2004. Farmer members of the Mamfe cooperative stand around cacao beans. We sat around drinking beer. One of the farmers started a rant about not getting paid in a timely manner. He was reprimanded about airing dirty laundry in front of a stranger. A year later, the cooperative dissolved, possibly because of corruption, a common cause of the failure of cooperatives.
